This blog is designed to promote discussion for AYSO Region 22, La Mirada. The goal of the discussion is to improve our region to provide the best youth soccer programs possible. Having said that, I'd like to ask that the comments, suggestions, criticisms and ideas are written in a constructive and positive way. Please refrain from making personal accusations or attacks against any individual in this forum. This is meant to be a place for civilized, constructive discussions.
This is my first experience using a blog, so it may take a little experimenting to get it working for all of us the way we'd like to promote open discussion. I'm pretty sure that the way this works, is that a POST has to be made, then open comments from readers can be posted about that POST. So, I'll make a post for IDEAS to discuss, then readers can comment on that post and based on the comments, we'll make new posts to discuss each individual idea that seems to have interest behind it. Hopefully this will work as a good way for us to discuss the many things about our region that we'd all like to participate in.
Anyway, welcome to all and let's start blogging...

With such an increase in Teams this year, I would hope to see more photographers next year. I currently have 2 kids in AYSO, next year will have 3. It was hard on the kids in the hot sun.
Thanks
Yes. Last year, we had some problems with the photography company in that people were sent photos for the wrong kids, the colors in the photos were not accurate, etc. This year, we chose a new company to use. They assured us that they knew from their experience that they were sending the right # of photographers. But, as we see they did not.
If the photos turn out good, and we like the company's other results, we'll consider using them again next year, but only if they'll provide more photographers.
Also, in talking to the photographers they said a huge problem for them was the parents on the fields, with last minute fixes, changes, not having forms filled out, not having payment in the envelopes, etc. It may not seem like much but a minute here, a minute there, it adds up and causes a backup. Last season we had the field blocked off so parents could not go onto the field. This year when volunteers tried to ask parents to stay up by the snack stand there were told I will go on the field and you can't stop me. We will work hard to make next year smoother, but we also need cooperation from all parents.
Good point on the parents going into the field Christina, but we have to make sure that we locate the photographers as deep into the field as possible to make it more difficult for anyone to make it down there without being VERY OBVIOUS to everyone else.
Hi Alfredo, we always have had them farther back on the field, our mistake in not doing it this year. Next season they will be farther back. Thanks for the comment.
I was on that field from the begining to the end. We should not blame the parents for our lack of planning. The only problem was a lack of planning. The details are simple and should have been worked out prior to opening day. I worked the same position last year and the parents did not have a problem. We can not expect to push parents all over the field without a plan and not expect them to become frustrated when they have no place to stand. For this part of the opening day we must admit that we were disorganized and fix it do not shift the blame it is not becomming.
My intent was not to blame or even shift the blame, I just wanted to inform what the Photographers had said.
I think the key is more volunteers. There were folks I saw running around trying their best to organize the teams into their respective lines. If we get more parents, who are not coaches.... to volunteer, it would make things go a lot smoother. Thanks to those who did volunteer your time!
So it seems to summarize what I've seen that we need to have more photographers, perhaps more volunteers (always our challenge) and also that we need to be better organized towards the picture part of Opening Day. Thank you all for your input. We'll keep these for discussion for the planning next year.
I spoke to the photography company yesterday and he had lots of ideas on how to run a smoother Picture day. We will try to make it easier on everyone next season. Thanks for all your comments/ideas.
